Reassurance on facelift
Published: 19 May, 2011
• FURTHER to your article (Square pleads: Give back cash promised for facelift, May 12) we have not dropped plans to give Regent Square a facelift if £30,000 is paid by the developers of the two blocks of flats planned for Sidmouth Street.
This is part of a legal agreement to address the pressures on public open space in the area brought about by the new development.
We will receive the money to improve local public spaces if construction of the flats is started. Consultation with local groups is a requirement of the legal agreement once we receive the money.
I can reassure residents that we will look to allocate the £30,000 to the nearest affected spaces, which are Regent Square and St George’s Gardens.
And, as promised, we will be consulting them on exactly how it might be spent and make sure the money is spent wisely in improving their local spaces.
