Provisional Licence no longer accepted as shoppers’ ID

• IN Sainsbury’s in Kentish Town I was made aware of its new policy of not accepting a provisional driving licence as photo ID. 

This policy is pedantic lunacy of quite incredible proportions.

I can fly all over Europe, vote and use my provisional driving licence for hundreds of things. It is an acceptable form of ID for all other establishments where alcohol can be purchased.

I’m 26 and I don’t drive. This is true of a huge percentage of Londoners. 

Is it seriously suggested that I carry my passport around everywhere, when it costs nearly £100 to replace and is larger than a provisional driving licence?

While I was pointing out to the store manager in Kentish Town the massive flaws in this unnecessary policy, another customer had her provisional licence rejected and joined me in my protests.

Sainsbury’s should revert to its previous ID policy.
