Long trek to park loos

Published: 27th May, 2011

THE toilets (and changing facilities) at Tufnell Park playing fields are out of order. Apparently, a water tank burst and flooded the boiler so the facilities had to be closed. This was a few months ago. Users of the fields have been instructed to go to Whittington Park and use the toilets there.

The toilets at Whittington Park are also closed. The old toilet blocks have been chained up for some time (although I was assured in November 2010 that they would remain open and available). The new (single) disabled toilet is also closed, with a notice on the door directing users to the toilets at Foxham playground.

The toilets at Foxham playground are specifically for small children. There are two small seating toilets (built to children’s size) and a stand-up one for boys (also built to children’s size).

So, in effect, the council is expecting all users of three football pitches, three large playgrounds, tennis courts, open-air gym facilities and casual park-users to use two small children’s toilets.

It’s all very well designing grandiose new paving and treescapes at places like the Archway roundabout but, without paying the relatively small sums needed to keep basic facilities like toilets functioning, a whole area suffers.
