Holding on for someone at Camden Council

Published: 26th May, 2011

• I CAN only echo the sentiments of the writer who was kept on hold while trying to get through to a particular council department.

I tried getting through to the environmental department, wanting an old TV and computer removed and disposed of in an environmentally sound way. I was kept on hold for 45 minutes, being told, as they were busy, to phone early morning or late afternoon.

I was phoning at 4.30pm and, again, at 9am was told the same thing. The end result is that a TV and a computer will be on their way to a landfill site to leech their toxic chemicals into the environment. No I don’t have a car to take them to the appropriate sites, which would, of course, involve pumping toxic fumes into the atmosphere.

I remember when you could call the council, a real person would answer, and then put you through.

I suppose the council have saved a phone receptionist’s salary. Progress eh?
