Warm front

Published: 31 March, 2011

• IN the cold weather that we saw this winter, many people in Camden struggled to keep warm because their homes are so badly insulated.

People living in privately rented homes are stuck; they cannot do much to their homes, and landlords have no incentive to improve energy efficiency when it is the tenant who pays the bills. Landlords have no legal duty to bring their properties up to a decent standard of energy efficiency.

In Camden we have over twice as many people renting homes compared with the national average.

Not surprisingly privately rented homes include some of the worst insulated properties.

So tackling this is important in reducing Camden’s contribution to climate change, and improving quality of life for people in the borough.

We invite everyone across Camden to attend a public meeting Camden’s Energy Future – Have your say at Camden Town Hall tonight (Thursday) March 31 from 7pm.

We’ll be joined by Frank Dobson MP, Councillor Angela Mason, and speakers from Age UK, Greenpeace, and World Development Movement to discuss the issues on a local, national and global scale: from cold homes and energy efficiency, to energy generation and climate change.

All are welcome.
