United against cuts

• WE have just seen a national Budget that can only raise grave concerns about our economic future and public services.
Here in Camden there’s a danger of despair at the breadth and depth of the services under threat including critical provision such as Women and Health.
For 25 years, as you reported, it has been quietly supporting vulnerable women, yet its services are now severely under threat.
So short-sighted when many of the women it supports are carers whose unpaid labour saves the government millions here in Camden alone.
Yet there’s also energy and enthusiasm to be developed from Saturday’s march.
Camden is truly united against the cuts.
We need to keep fighting on every front, from the traditional political avenues to the new creative outlets developed by organisations such as UK Uncut, to demonstrate and deepen resistance to a Britain governed for the benefit of the bankers and tax-avoiding corporations.
We need to keep fighting with local actions in Camden wherever we can to deal with the environmental issues as best we can.
