Some cuts inevitable
Published: 3 March, 2011
• WHEN we look at the scale and range of service cuts in Camden it is difficult to argue that the library service should be immune. What is proposed for the library service is not unfair or out of balance compared with what other Camden departments have to do.
The previous Lib Dem-Conservative council had already embarked on restructuring the library service. Increased use of technology and reduced staffing levels date from its initiative. So the real debate is about what we want the service to become. The council’s consultation should be taken seriously. Opposition to all change is not a real option.
