Rough on homeless

• I FIND GR’s letter (Rough sleeping is unacceptable, March 11) unfeeling in the extreme.

How would GR or the council answer the claim by Philip Hole of The Simon Community that “getting referred into a hostel… can take up to three months”?

What do they expect rough sleepers to do in the meantime, sleep on the streets without help? 

If they’re going to stop the soup runs – and I wish them the worst of luck – the council should provide somewhere for the homeless to sleep, rest, and wash.

There must be empty buildings available.
