Robbed at the bank

Published: 17th March, 2011

• ON Saturday morning while checking my mini-statement at the till in the Halifax in Camden Town, a tall slim young man tapped me on the shoulder and pointed to a £5 on the floor and said “you have dropped some money”.

I knew it could not have been me and ignored him but in that split second he had made me turn my head he had taken my card from the machine and was gone.

This sort of thing happened once before at Santander in Swiss Cottage with a group of young men but on that occasion they were not as quick as the man in the Halifax and so did not succeed.

It is obvious these thieves target the elderly because we are not as quick and nimble.

However, on this occasion Halifax is also to blame as they have squashed their tills so close together it makes it impossible to do a transaction without someone looking over ones shoulder. I pointed this out to their staff but they could not have cared less as their only interest is taking our money.
