Roadworks double-take

Published: 18th March, 2011

• A FEW weeks ago a zebra crossing in Copenhagen Street, at the junction with Bemerton Street, in Islington was dug up by workmen, and the island in the middle removed.

This work was done at great inconvenience to traffic and pedestrians; and no doubt at great expense.

Earlier this week, to my amazement, it has been dug up again, and the island is now being replaced.

Once more, there is mass disruption.

Even if there was a plausible reason for the work, it would have made common sense to carry it out in one go. If this had been done, then inconvenience and costs would have been greatly reduced.

Why was this work done twice? To do so when we are in difficult financial straits is unacceptable.
