Priced out of high street

Published: 24 March, 2011

• WE have been regular customers of Hair Razors in Kentish Town High Road for a number of years.

Now we hear that it may be forced to close down as the rateable value of the premises has doubled within the past two years.

Hair Razors has been in operation for more than 20 years and is one of the last locally-owned small businesses in the high road.

We feel that this is just another instance of the erosion of the local high street in favour or large national and international chains which are rapidly becoming the only businesses able to afford not only rapidly increasing rents, but enormous and, frankly, inexplicable increases in rateable values at a time when property values, we are told, are falling.
