Peter Pan budget

Published: 3 March, 2011

• THE opposition parties’ alternative budgets were fairytale in their connection to the real world.

In the yellow corner we had the Peter Pan budget, a Never Never Land wish-list which imagined that Nick Clegg never got into bed with David Cameron, and where money grows on trees. This budget would have seen our schools literally fall apart over coming years.

In the blue corner we saw Alice in Wonderland, with the Tories as the Queen of Hearts crying “off with their heads”, savaging the public sector.
