A man of quality

• THE squeeze was on the Charlie Ratchford Centre in Chalk Farm to find £20,000 in savings.

Its manager did not want to lose any front-line staff so volunteered to leave his job so it can be taken over by a manager of another centre, both jobs combined. Steven Reading, in his 50s, is a caring and gentle person who has worked at CRC for many years. He will be missed. People of his quality, who care for the people they help daily, are a credit to the service.

This modest man would not dream of going public but his work was appreciated by many so should be marked.

The purge of managers by Camden will affect the quality of service delivery for years to come. Money held in reserve by the council should be used in the present emergency to support services such as that provided by the CRC. Chancellor Osborne has nothing to smile about.
