It’s one long holiday for pupils these days

• MUST we have this half-term holiday in February? What is the purpose of this break so soon after Christmas? Do children and teachers need this holiday less than two months after the last one? 

On our estate life has become one of calling police about anti-social behaviour caused by children having too much time on their hands with nothing to do.

Children congregate outside tenants’ homes late at night, and parents are oblivious to our concerns and care little about what their kids are getting up to. 

No police “on the beat” –  they treat the whole episode as a joke. We residents are expected to just put up with the shouting and “hanging out” as it is called nowadays. 

Small wonder many children are ill-prepared for the world of work, they are never in school.
