Well-deserved honours

Published: 24th June, 2011

• THE Green Party has concerns about an honours system which so often rewards bankers and international arms manufacturers, but it’s great to be reminded that it also recognises inspirational people putting huge amounts of commitment into their community, such as Jean Willson, Evelyn Martin and Brooke Kinsella (Honour for actress fired by tragedy to fight knife crime, June 17).

Congratulations and thanks to all of them. Congratulations also to Councillor Terry Stacy on his MBE. We may (often!) disagree with Cllr Stacy on Town Hall policy, but it is good to see a community campaigner acknowledged for long-term services to social housing, rather than yet another industrialist honoured for selling weapons to dictators.
