A scandal!

• THE sale of St Luke’s Hospital by the Camden & Islington NHS Foundation Trust is nothing less than a scandal.

This is a view shared by councillors from Camden and Islington when they took it as an item for the health scrutiny committee on June 1.

The trust’s chief executive, Wendy Wallace, made attempts to respond to the many questions put asking whether the trust had considered using it in collaboration with other local authorities or whether there was any innovative, different, use to which this important site could be put.

The trust certainly didn’t seem to have considered any.

It is fortunate the committee was there to advise the trust that its one-month public consideration on the proposal to sell St Luke’s is not good enough and that the disposal of a site of this importance and value merits a three-month consultation.

At the meeting, Ms Wallace said if there were any plans for changes to the three rehabilitation houses on the side of the site that there would be a further consultation. Previously residents were promised “homes for life”.
