Remember Mr Gekko?

• YOU state that Lord Taylor accused the Diocese of London of “being obsessed by greed” having a “shameful philosophy” which “…reminds me of Gordon Gekko’s greed-is-good attitude” (Diary, June 3).

As he was a vice-president at the British Board of Film Classification (my “boss” when I was “made redundant” by the board in 2000) it is stunning to discover he is the first peer found guilty of fiddling expenses (£11,277 in 2006-2007), lying under oath, claiming he was living with his mother (who’d been dead for some years), claiming he lived at his step-nephew’s residence (unbeknownst to his step-nephew) etcetera.

Perhaps Gekko in the film Wall Street was not so bad after all.
