Mel’s take on gospels

Published: 24 June 2011

DAN Carrier’s review of Mel Gibson’s new film (June 17) accuses him of seriously blotting his directorial copybook “…by the violence and the uncomfortable messages writ large through such films as The Passion of the Christ…”.

Violent and uncomfortable it is, but the content needs to be credited to Saints Matthew, Mark, Luke and John for writing the gospels which form the film’s script.

And on the individuals who at the time brought about the betrayal, humiliation, torture and judicial murder of the man Christians hold to be the Son of God.

Fortunately the gospels and the film also record that the same man forgave them before he died. Perhaps Dan Carrier can do the same with Mel Gibson.
