Janet Vance

• ALTHOUGH confined to a wheelchair, due to being a bilateral amputee, Janet Vance was a powerful and loving presence within the St Anne’s congregation where she was one of the pillars of the Church.

As I got to know Janet I grew to realise what an important member she was not just of the congregation but also of the Soho community.

One of the diamonds in Janet’s crown is the establishment of Soho Community Centre Trust to facilitate work particularly with the over-60s and for many years including a pantomime group known as the Soho Stars. The trust hosts a tea every Tuesday and lunch club every Thursday, day trips and, during the festive period, a holiday banquet second to none.

Janet’s legs were amputated years ago because of diabetes.  This did not stop her, and the way she adapted was an inspiration to all who knew and observed her. It’s hard to imagine who will fill the void created at St Anne’s and in Soho. May she rest in peace and rise and “walk again” in glory.
