Cuts: the real villains

Published: 17 June, 2011

• YOUR letter writer seems a bit hard on Islington Borough User Group (iBUG) (Perverse to lose beds, June 10). Most members of iBUG are recognised as suffering from long-term mental illnesses. So we should be surprised that they can do anything at all for themselves rather than condemnatory of their group, from which they also earn money to add to their benefits.

If there are villains then they are the management of Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust, who use iBUG to support all the reductions they are making to local mental health services.

It seems that iBUG is doing the best it can. The question is whether this is good enough for the £50,000 it receives in support each year.
