Cancel these unfair parking fines and give the victims a refund

Published: 16 June, 2011

• WHY did Councillor Keith Moffitt pay the fine and not put forward representations about the way this has been handled (Fine made me see red, June 9) when the council have admitted they are at fault?

Once you pay the fine, you have admitted guilt and representations are not allowed. If one person forgets to renew their permit that’s one thing.

If many permit holders who have signed up for, and relied on, reminders from the council do not renew them that is something else.

Cllr Moffitt was informed about the computer issue (because he is a councillor) but told it was his responsibility to renew his permit on time.

If any company offers to provide a service, in this case a reminder service, and then fails to provide this service it should send them out immediately the problem has been rectified and offer a “grace” period.

Moreover, any parking contravention notices should be cancelled and refunds should be made to anyone who has paid.

Camden’s do as we say, not as we do, approach leaves a very sour taste in the mouth.
