And the winner is..

• I HAVE been searching for the biggest/oldest tree in Islington and I think the winner is a giant specimen in Mary Magdalene Church park (between Holloway and Liverpool Road).
The Islington Council website refers to two large London plane trees in this park that are more than 250 years old – surely this is one of them. It is near the middle of the south side of the park and is probably a good five metres in circumference. The other, smaller one is a bit further to the west.
I found another enormous tree on the north side of Hardwick Street, just off Amwell Road, on private property but it doesn’t look quite as large as either of those in Mary Magdalene Church park.
Do readers know of any large/old trees in Islington, possibly on private property, that can’t be seen by the public? Is the Mary Magdalene Park monster the champion or is there another one that is even bigger?
