World in one borough

TODAY I woke up to news from Afghanistan; said “Good morning” to the South African concierge in my block of flats; had a café latte in a Turkish-run café, where the woman assistant was wearing a friendship wristband from Nepal; said “Good morning” to a Latin American cleaner; discussed diversity with clergy from Devon and Manchester; organised a cheque from my church  to the East Africa crisis appeal; had lunch with a Christian Jew and a Scottish woman, with food cooked by a chef from the DR Congo; shared time with a woman from the Philippines and a Nigerian. And, after shopping at the People’s Supermarket, I had a cappuccino at a café run by Sid and Sue of Greek Cypriot origin – but born in this country.

In the evening, I enjoyed reading in the New Journal about Lord Mayor Alderman Michael Ball, swimming to raise funds for Coram (near to my home).

I thank God for the diversity in Camden.
