Unmoved at the movies

Published: July 28, 2011

I EXPECT most people in Camden have been to the cinema and experienced the dark auditorium with adverts and trailers being blasted out at ear-piercing intensity, followed by a tabloid-like film that will disappear forever within a week.

Once the lights were on during the ads and trailers. Once there was an usher in uniform with a torch to show you to your seat. Now it seems to be as few staff as possible on minimum-wage working in this multi-billion pound industry. You will now stumble as best as you can up those not very people-friendly stairs to your now expensive seat clutching a jumbo-size, jumbo-priced carton of popcorn. Hardly a scenario for ever going back to the cinema.
