Rubbish is left behind
• WHEN I moved into my council flat Camden ran and employed the staff for rubbish collection with an acceptable service.
Subsequently, the private company Veolia took over. Their gung-ho approach was certainly no improvement – with much rubbish dropped and left behind in the yard. They apparently were not contracted to clear up their mess before departing.
Our caretakers, however, dealt with it efficiently.
Then Veolia were given a very generous contract to remove recyclable waste. The green, blue and white bags which tenants carefully filled, were, after emptying. Simply thrown on the ground – either in the yard or along the pavements.
Our efficient caretakers, who kept the yard cleaned regularly, had been replaced by the well-paid Veolia company. They come to my flats once a week. Bins are emptied on a Friday and Veolia returns the following Wednesday to sweep up the mess they created five days previously.
Could the Council explain their possible intention to employ Veolia further, with an expensive contract lasting 20 to 30 years?
The funding that Camden plays around with is not monopoly money. It is time to revert to local authorities, that manage and run local affairs, in a less expensive, but more efficient manner!
If they are not competent to do so, would they resign and allow us to find and elect people who would prove to be competent?
