Our community will not be fast-tracked to destruction
• FOLLOWING your Comment (It’s dangerous to make a mockery of consultation, July 7) we would like to bring to your attention a very similar set of proposals regarding the parade of shops and NHS GP surgery at 62-67 Plender Street, Camden Town.
The council is proposing to demolish and redevelop this small site without any regard to the loss of the services provided to the community by these popular and well-used businesses, let alone the loss of GP services to approximately 3,000 NHS patients.
First notification of this was not received until June 28, with the plans to be presented to the Council cabinet on July 20 for approval.
This allows just 22 days for “consultation” with the local community affected by this – hopefully not long enough for us to organise any effective opposition?
We are, however, more wise to their tactics, having witnessed the dreadful manner in which the Talacre redevelopment was steam-rollered against the local wishes, and we are absolutely determined that this will not happen here.
So we are asking everyone living in the Plender Street area, who uses the small shops/businesses and anyone registered at Dr Shina’s surgery who wants to keep these essential services to contact Peter Dockett at Camden Property Services Division on 020 7974 1600, email peter.dockett@camden. gov.uk and let him know what you think of the plans.
The council’s claim that this is “investment in the community” is wrong.
It is more like “destruction of the community” for profit.
