Thanks to my Good Samaritans
Published: 27 January, 2011
• ON the evening of December 18 (which readers may remember as the day of the blizzard) I slipped in the snow on my way home from a carol concert in Rosslyn Hill and broke my arm.
May I please use your newspaper to thank the Good Samaritans who rushed to help me? They not only rang for an ambulance, but, when warned by the LAS control room that this might take quite a long time to arrive, on a very busy evening, several of them went straight to the Royal Free to ask someone from A&E to bring up a wheelchair. In the event the wheelchair and ambulance arrived almost simultaneously, so I opted for the latter.
Many other passers by stopped to offer assistance, but it is to the first arrivals, who were immediately behind me when I fell, that I am particularly grateful. They kept me company in the cold, with no sign of impatience, until the ambulance arrived.
I should like also to thank the ambulance crew (Oliver and Sarah) and A&E staff at the Royal Free who subsequently treated me. It took time, given the number of snow-related injuries that evening; but I was confident that I was in good hands. Thanks to their care I am now able to type this letter with both hands.
