Tarmac? It’s green
Published: 27 January, 2011
• I HAVE received a pamphlet from Labour outlining the plan to build flats on the “wasted tarmac” on the Tybalds Close estate.
Does anyone realise that the “wasted tarmac” is, in part, a children’s playground that the council spent thousands of pounds on last summer?
It is not Tarmac and it is not wasted; it is green and is used by plenty of children and their parents.
I can understand that there is a need for housing but to turn this bit of green space, sheds and laundry rooms into places for people to have to live seems extreme.
If the council need a site surely it would be better to build some flats on the site that will become available when the art college in Red Lion Square goes, or the massive site at Mount Pleasant which Royal Mail will leave.
The plans for the Tybalds Close have already been drawn up, yet people in the surrounding area have not been fully consulted on their views as was promised in the pamphlet.
