St Luke’s could shelter the homeless

Published: 6 January, 2011

• IT’S chilling to see homeless people in this cold snap. Why can’t Richard Arthur let them use St Luke’s Hospital for shelter this Christmas as it’s lying empty? Many homeless people have mental health problems and would be grateful for respite at the famous building owned by the Camden & Islington Foundation Trust.

At least then there would be some point in keeping the multi-million pound site while Mr Arthur waits another year to decide what to do with it.

Heaven forbid Arthur would actually sell St Luke’s instead of closing a third of inpatient beds to save money. He claims the Trust is hard up for cash, but the Trust’s phoney figures showing surplus beds cannot explain this waste of money.

I gave up believing in Santa Claus a long time ago. Equally I cannot believe that the C&I Trust knows what it’s doing.
