St Anne’s looks to future

Published: 20 January, 2011

• DAVID Gleeson (Letters, January 14) complains that St Anne’s Parochial Church Council has been antagonistic towards the Soho Society despite David Gilmore having been removed as Rector.

In fact, the PCC has not met since the Bishop’s Disciplinary Tribunal published its determination of his case, so cannot be held to blame for not having changed their perceived attitude to the society.

It may be that the administrator or the church wardens are still applying procedures that were in place under David’s regime. I can say that both David Gilmore and the Soho Society have been remembered in our prayers of a Sunday.

As a PCC we are due to meet again at the end of January, and I very much hope that, under the guidance of the Archdeacon, who is temporarily in charge, as it were, we will come to

co-operate more easily with the wider community, especially the Soho Society.

Your letter writer is correct to say that the congregation shrank drastically during David’s incumbency.

I hope we would all welcome back those who jumped ship and joined St Martin’s because they found our former Rector intolerable.

St Anne’s has been saved from ruin in the past by those who have thought the task worthwhile, most notably by the Soho Society.

Please come back and help us set the sails and the course of our almost rudderless vessel.
