Silence!

Published: 13 January, 2011

• SOME maintain a “convenient silence” on the proposals to close two of the Islington & Camden’s NHS Foundation Trust’s four hospitals with the loss of 100 mental health beds.

The most likely reason is that these people owe their jobs and funding to the very organisation making the proposals. Biting the trust’s hand might just ensure that there are no more hand-outs.

Interestingly the voluntary sector is silent too.

The truth would seem to be that Arnold Palmer, the trust’s financial director, is not going to find much opposition to his proposals to save huge sums of money – £20million over three years – by simply cutting the services the trust provides.

The end result is that both in-patient and community services will be slashed in the name of efficiency.

Notice will only be taken when something terrible happens as it surely will.

People will then ask “how could this happen” and the answer will be very simply that those who could did nothing to prevent it.
