Path plan attacks on our heritage, environment and rights
Published: 13 January, 2011
• THE proposal to stop up Grove End at the end of the historic College Lane footpath (Developers want to turn historic path into car park, January 6) which provides a pedestrian route from Kentish Town into Grove Terrace and the Heath is a real cause of concern.
It not only forms part of a pleasant route away from busy main roads, but its also part of our local heritage, beautifully explained in Gillian Tyndall’s book The Fields Beneath, linking people back to a different era. There is a network of these footpaths, several in the Dartmouth Park area, and residents value them highly.
Giving up these rights is not at all in keeping with the council’s commitment in its new planning policy document to the quality of our highways and public spaces and the need for an enhanced public realm which contributes to enhanced walking environments.
Replacing the end of this route with a private car park flies in the face of this commitment.
I’ve registered my objections to this and I will urge the council to refuse to grant this application.
