Passing the buck on the cuts

Published: 27 January, 2011

• A REFRESHING breed of councillors indeed!

I am writing to congratulate our Labour back bench councillors Thomas Gardiner, and Meric Apak for not allowing themselves to be whipped into accepting what I believe to be the usual dogmatic single-minded cabinet councillors are presenting as a so-called solution for the government cuts. In fact all they are doing is to pass on the buck from the government straight on to us. So much for Labour values and Camden Labour manifesto promises not ruling out council tax rises to pay for front-line services. Just a 50p rise in council tax this year, accumulatively, will ensure our play service is protected next year and the year after that.

If proposed plans by the Labour cabinet on the play service go ahead as is now, have the cabinet councillors considered the ramifications of their decisions on people like me and my wife who work full-time with three children all under five?
