No care for monstrosity
Published: 7 January, 2011
• IN the current climate of savage cuts to essential services, where we are asked to pull together and tighten our belts, it seems vulgar to construct this useless Bomber Command Memorial monstrosity at the present time.
Those who truly understand the wartime spirit would no doubt agree that we have to be utilitarian and sacrifice luxuries for the sake of the wellbeing of the country.
Little things like healthcare, education and care for the disabled in our society, for example, should take priority over nostalgic sentimental art installations.
Let there at least be a freeze on the plan until better times, if it is even worth it at all.
