Misery with the bedbugs
Published: 13 January, 2011
• I READ about the terrible infestation of bedbugs in New York and I wonder if Camden are not inviting a similar outbreak here by not tackling the issue in my home.
I am a council tenant in a very small one-bedroom flat with my 10-year-old daughter and our life has been made hell since September because of bedbugs and the council’s pest controllers’ inability to get rid of them.
Their pest control people have been round three times and sprayed but the bed bugs keep coming back because they haven’t found the source of the creatures. They do not spray all of the flats in the building which is a mixture of council and private flats.
Before Christmas we washed and packed up all of our belongings in black bags and left them in the shared garden so the freezing weather prevents any infestation by the bugs.
We had a miserable Christmas thanks to the situation.
A man from the pest control company came again last week and sprayed our flat again, but within days the bugs were back in evidence.
I think they must move from floor to floor via the bathrooms in the building.
We are desperate that, yet again, the pest treatment hasn’t worked and just want to be moved to another bug-free flat where we can get on with our lives.
