On the edge

• THE Netherwood Day Centre for dementia sufferers in NW6 is under threat.
Unfortunately this superb, purpose-built centre is to be shut down and the far inferior facility at Raglan House in Kentish Town is to be saved instead.
If Netherwood is closed service users will be transferred to Raglan House.
Quite how one site could cope with this has not been explained by Camden Council.
In Camden Council’s “Consultation on adult social care savings programme” there are several inaccurate claims regarding the service offered at Netherwood, including the provision for music therapy and the suggestion that there are a “limited choice of activities on offer”.
This is simply not true. The main argument in closing Netherwood is that it is on the edge of the borough and “many” service users have to spend time on transport to reach the venue. Those who are currently living near and attending Netherwood will be faced with the same dilemma if they are transferred to Raglan House. Netherwood is by far the better day centre.
Keep Netherwood open and stop the council from making a truly terrible mistake.
