DNA: the jury is out

Published: 20 January, 2011

• THE Review talks about the fallibility of DNA matches in connection with the Hanratty case (Hanratty – the campaign to clear his name continues, January 14).

But on another page the reviewer of the film Conviction, referring to the same use of DNA, states: “You can’t help  marvel at how clever scientists are to be able to use such breakthroughs to solve cold-case crimes” (The inside story of a real family, January 14)

Well, which is it? Cleverness or fallibility? Fallible cleverness? Clever fallibility? Or a bit of both?
