On the buses with big egos

• OH, I did get a laugh out of Tom Copley (Fares rise not so fair, Letters, January 6) dismissing Boris’s new Routemasters as a money-wasting “vanity project”. 

What was Ken Livingstone’s scrapping of the original Routemasters over widespread public protest to introduce his unsuitable and still unloved bendy buses if not a vanity project, as well as a colossal waste of taxpayers’ money? 

When it comes to displays of ego, Ken is at least a match for Boris, and that’s saying something.
