We need a battle plan to fight cuts
Published: 18 February, 2011
• WEST End Extra is to be congratulated on its coverage of the cuts being inflicted on residents.
Readers should be aware of the destructive decisions regarding older people living in Westminster.
Open Age is a splendid resource for 50+ residents. The organisation offers a multitude of daily activities – physical, educational and recreational – to relevant individuals.
Or, rather, it did.
Owing to the council/ NHS review of voluntary sector funding processes, Open Age has been forced to cut back on an extensive number of these facilities.
It is ironic that local resources in the voluntary sector (the government’s mantra words) are the targets of their ideological posturing.
Perhaps councillors could construct a coherent battle plan whereby those of us who believe in a Fair (as opposed to a Big) Society can take action against such banditry?
