Vital service

Published: 17 February, 2011

• I AM dismayed at the prospect of the Good Neighbour Scheme being cut, which is so important to older people.

The person I visit is 92 years old, has no family in London and very few friends. When I visit her, it is often the case that she hasn’t seen anyone since my last visit. It is also difficult for her to go out alone due to her frailty.

This service is cheap but it is not free.

If this isn’t the so-called Big Society in action then I don’t know what is. What will happen to all of the housebound, isolated older people who I visit? Camden must reconsider. We really must be able to continue this vital service to our older friends and neighbours.
