Sounds of West Central

Published: 25 February, 2011

• FOR any citizen who lives in WC1 and WC2 and particularly those who live in and around the Brunswick Centre, the British Library has a very interesting CD on sale.

Sounds of the Deep is the title and a courting haddock’s sound, for example, is exactly the same as that which the contractors, Conway, produce from their drills.

So anyone from the above postcodes who have been invited to a quiet weekend in Berkshire, the Suffolk coast or the Yorkshire Dales can take this CD with them and have a sound of home.

Hotels around Russell Square should have the CD on sale so that tourists who have come here to enjoy the drilling, scaffold work, and to watch the building of high-rise office blocks, could buy it as a souvenir.

These attractions, encouraged by both mayors Livingstone and Johnson, are steady earners.

Though the constant noise may drive citizens mad (for example, post-pneumatic-drill-disorder) remember that the tourists’ money is helping Cameron to realise the Big Society, thus silencing those coalition voices who demand a return to the workhouse, treadmill and other Victorian values.
