A real lifeline

• I VOLUNTEERED to take part in the Good Neighbour Scheme three years ago and each week I spend an hour visiting a woman who is now a 100 years old and has no close family or friends who can visit.
I am unquestionably her most important lifeline.
This extraordinary service offers crucial support to the elderly members of our community and it is brilliantly run by Age Concern.
I was astonished to hear the scheme is now under threat of being cut by Camden, which would be a total disaster for the 50 elderly households who depend on Age Concern volunteers.
It’s the last thing Camden should be considering cutting, as it goes to the heart of public service.
I have a high regard for the way Camden runs its borough and hope that the value of this service will be properly considered by everyone involved in making this potentially catastrophic cut.
