MPs’ pay must not be the priority
Published: 3 February, 2011
• WHAT planet is Mark Field on wanting a pay rise (MP against salary clock, January 28)?
“We are all in it together,’’ but Mr Field obviously thinks he is someone special.
I should think that apart from bankers, MPs should be second to bottom in asking for pay rises, but then he is a Tory and some of them think they are in a parallel universe when it comes to reality and somehow convince themselves they are poor.
So 2011-2012 will see no pay rises, with freezing of wages for public and local government servants, and private sector pay rises at a very low rate now and probably next year as well.
If David Cameron muttered the mantra above then that should be the case, but we do know it will hurt the poorer families more than Mr Field and co.
So I would urge the Cities of London and Westminster member to get real and not to be so greedy.
