Lessons from the very poor

• ON a positive note: in a slum outside Mumbai, an illiterate mother  sitting in her tiny one-room flat, which is home to 10 people, is asked how she feels about the rich, and she says: “They have worked hard. And we must work hard, too.” She can see a way out of her situation. Can we learn anything?
