Keeping us alive

Published: 11 February, 2011

• ACCORDING to National Statistics by 2033 almost one in four people will be aged 65 or over. Are we just to vegetate in our homes or look for our last resting place?

Yes, that’s what we old age pensioners are feeling as the council just cut our services to Age Concern centres.

Just giving us the elbow, to say they are going to close all our centres in the poorer part of Camden.

The resource centres keep us all alive, and ensure we don’t feel sorry for ourselves by phoning our doctors or carers to help us.

At these centres we meet people and we keep ourselves busy with activities like armchair keep fit, arts, gardening, darts, bowls and much more, which we all love, and which help to keep us going.

On most days, our Great Croft centre is well used, and many pensioners stay for a three-course lunch, which could be the only hot food they get!

So, just think about the closure of these centres.

Otherwise, just staring at four walls, will be the only thing that old age pensioners have to look forward to for the rest of their lives.
