Investing in education

• IT’S all very well for MP Glenda Jackson to criticise the Education Bill as “monstrous,” but she forgets what families want: a good local secondary school (Back to ‘them and us’ education? Forum, February 17).
Many Camden parents, from Belsize to King’s Cross, see the Education Bill as a way of finally getting the much-needed local schools that they have wanted for years.
The Labour government, of which Ms Jackson was a part, failed to spot a baby boom that has led to a desperate need for primary places.
There was a lack of investment in our children’s future, and this was at a time when the government had far more money coming in.
Hundreds of kids across London are being educated in temporary cabins as a result.
I’d love to hear other suggestions on how we might get the schools we need.
We can’t afford to play politics with our children’s future.
