Fight these unfair cuts

• LAST week, Islington Council passed a budget after the government removed £40million from the services that sustain our community. Those government cuts represent nothing less than an attack on the thousands of low-income families in our borough.

They are just the first blow in the Conservative-Liberal Democrat government’s plan to cut £335million from our community over the next four years.

Despite the cuts, the council’s Labour group managed to minimise the damage and work on the side of ordinary people by providing extra funds for the voluntary sector, for adult social care, to protect free school meals and to help get people into work.

We need to build a movement against these unfair cuts. That is why we are organising for the TUC demonstration on March 26.

As part of that day of action, we have organised a community event before the demonstration at 10.30am in Highbury Fields. This family event will give an opportunity for the whole community to show their opposition to the cuts. People can also join us at the main TUC demonstration later.

We call on all residents to join us there to stand up for our community.
