Executives are out of touch
Published: 3 February, 2011
• I WAS disgusted when Councillor Pat Callaghan told the meeting at Henderson Court on January 14 that the highly-paid executives of the council had decided to withdraw funding of this resource centre.
They must be totally out of touch with how the other half live and the dedication of the staff at Henderson Court, which is a lifeline for old people living on their own. They come here to meet friends, and enjoy lunch.
This and other activities, such as the dementia group and other stimulating activities, keep the old people fit and well, which relieves the pressure on the health services.
What would become of the old and sick, sitting at home on their own with no one to talk to?
Executives of council, and government, could not begin to imagine the dedication and kindness shown to the old and sick. They are dismissing staff, whose qualities cannot be measured in money. Please help to save this irreplaceable Hampstead asset, which has taken many years to establish.
Once it is allowed to go we could not bring it back.
