Democracy for Egypt

Published: 11 February, 2011

• I READ the brilliant report by Sunita Rappai about revolutionary Cairo (February 3) with anxious joy.

I taught English language and literature at the American University in Cairo.  This is housed in an old Turkish palace on a side of Tahrir Square facing the Egyptian museum – thankfully unharmed, it seems.

May the Egyptian people create a democracy of all faiths and classes, at least as troubled, difficult but real as those in India and the UK.
