Cuts that strike at the very heart of our children’s lives
Published: 3 February, 2011
• MY 10-year-old has been using Camden play services since he was tiny.
We really value the love and continuity of care staff have given.
As a mixed-race family, we particularly appreciate the mix of people working in the play centre, which much more accurately reflects the background of the children than his teachers.
Now children, mums and other carers, and staff face devastating cuts to Camden Play Services.
Yet simultaneously mothers are being forced off benefits and into low-waged work, so becoming even more dependent on affordable childcare.
What will happen to our children?
It seems their safety and welfare doesn’t count.
My son and I will be joining the “Mothers March” on Saturday March 12 to demand an economy that “invests in caring not killing”.
All are welcome: mums, dads, grannies and anyone else who feels the same!
